Week 3 // MY NEED
Give us today our daily bread.
[God fed] you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Deuteronomy 8.3-4
Bringing our daily prayers for provision before our Father helps (a) build our relationship of trust with God and (b) teach us how to walk a supernatural lifestyle. The more we practise dependence on God in prayer, the greater our faith.
Use the PAYE system.
PRACTICE a Daily Discipline
Daily Petition in prayer leads to daily answers to prayer, which is why it's often the most encouraging type of prayer.
AUDIT your Life
Think through your needs - physical, emotional, social - and think through your resources. What are you looking for God to suppy? Are you living in such a way as to need his provision? Or are you self-reliant and comfortable?
YIELD your Needs
Bring your needs to God consciously in prayer. Hand them over to Him. Cast your burdens onto the one who cares for you.
EXAMINE your Giving.
The more generous we are with our giving, the more we can genuinely pray for daily bread. Commit yourself to a lifestyle where you give freely and trust God to supply what you need. Not irresponsibly, but in such a way as to wean yourself off self-reliance and hoarding for yourself.
Add an element of Petition to your daily prayer diet. Tick on each day as you pray. You can make a note of what you prayed and anything you felt God speaking to you.
